The week began with a whirlwind maelstrom of rumors and crazy accusations but finally settled down into something almost serene. One does get the feeling that this is the calm before the storm.

MATT SMITH THANKS FANS

During a break from filming in Detroit Matt Smith took some time to thank the fans that made his run as The Doctor so popular. Smith has now finished filming How To Catch A Monster with director Ryan Gosling.

In his video message Smith also thanked his former co-stars Arthur Darvill and Karen Gillan as well as Jenna-Louise Coleman and Steven Moffat.

Doctor Who land, listen. This is a message to say thank you for all your support over the past four years . To Steven Moffat, all the brilliant cast and crew who just made the whole journey a marvellous one. But really what makes this job truly spectacular is the support from the fans, it’s truly unique. I’m in Detroit and it’s late and we’ve just finished a night shoot…but thank you!

MATT SMITH: PUTTIN’ ON THE RITZ

Once again Matt Smith is taking time out from his hectic schedule for charity. The soon to be former Doctor is participating in A Curious Night of Theatre, an event to raise money for autistic children, by auctioning off tea with him at the Ritz in London.

The Whispermen will not be present.

From the sellebrity,org.uk website:

You and a lucky friend could freeze time for an afternoon.  Well, maybe not actually… but we’re sure you would want to, and it may very well feel that way, as you sip tea and sample delicious morsels of gorgeousness at The Ritz in the company of the current Dr Who, Matt Smith.

Matt will give you an exclusive glimpse of behind the scenes, with stories straight from The Doctor’s mouth.

MISSING EPISODES: WHAT IS GOING ON?

For most of my adolescent and adult life as a Whovian I have been told that the great tragedy of the series is that 106  episodes from the Hartnell and Troughton eras of Doctor Who are gone.

This totally sucks for so may reasons. But one of the sad things is that those who discovered the show in the 1980s and before 2005 had to discover the 1st and 2nd Doctors in imaginative ways. Luckily for me I had the Target novelizations to fall back. Back then there was not good video footage of these missing gems so you had to make do. For this group the potential of finding these stories is possibly an unsurmountably amazing thing.

As for the 106 episodes, they got wiped by the BBC in an amazingly stupid scheme to save money. Once that happened it was believed that there was little chance of these episodes ever being seen again.

All that changed last week when the internet exploded (like it sometimes does) about rumors that  a large number of these ‘missing episodes’ have been turned over to the BBC.

Here is what began it all, the story from Bleeding Cool.

A lot of people freaked out, salivated, speculated and even chided the usually stand up crew at Bleeding Cool about the story which is said since the real importance was missed; whether or not the episodes did really exist or if it was all balderdash, there was a definite period of euphoria and celebration by fans of all generations over the joy and awesomeness that is Doctor Who. If nothing else the potential for this story to be true gave a gestalt of unity amongst fans that has not happened for awhile. Especially after a decisive season like Season Seven. This rumor made people think about why they love the show. This is a cool thing.

After originally denying the reports uberfan and expert Ian Levine chimed in that he believed something was up.

After a few days the BBC responded to all of this with deniability.

So who really knows where this is all heading? It sucks to be in limbo but with everyone being so insistent on their POV this is only going to get more interesting in the coming months.

DAVID TENNANT WINS EMMY AWARD

Since leaving the TARDIS David Tennant has been working very hard on and off the screen. His voice work has been recognized by his peers with a daytime Emmy award.

SEASON EIGHT RUMORS

There still is a lot of speculation over how the much built up demise of the 11 Doctor is going to happen. It looks like it will be another sad tearjerker that is sure to decimate those who watch his regeneration.

Smith-1

The Radio Times reported that the next  Doctor could be kept under wraps until the autumn when filming for the Christmas Special begins.

With that in mind, Season Eight preparations are still very much underway. Since the season is already plotted out,it should be interesting to see how many previously commissioned scripts are affected by Smith’s departure.

What we believe so far is that Jenna-Louise Coleman is back as Clara. We also know that Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat are writing scripts along with Chris Chibnall and most likely Neil Gaiman. But none of this is confirmed.

As of now no directors have been named although Saul Metzstein will probably be back. Peter Jackson has been lobbying hard to direct an episode but there has been no confirmation on this either.

Joanna Page and John Hurt are special stars.

The Zygons will be back but are not the lead villain. Most likely we will catch up with the Tenth Doctor and rose in the middle of an adventure with them.

The Tennant era console room is back.

Roger Moore angled for a guest starring slot recently and it looks like Mark Gatiss may give it to him.

The BBC has signed of on the season which begins in August for a continuous twelve episode season. There also will be a Christmas Special.

JLC NAILS FILM ROLE, CHANGES NAME

It has been a busy month for Jenna-Louise Coleman. The actress has been promoting Doctor Who, looking for new projects and meeting the Queen. During all of this time she decided to change her name. Don’t worry she has not changed it to a symbol, she is now known professionally as Jenna Coleman.

If that were not enough she has landed the role of Lydia Wickham in Death Comes To Pemberley, an adaptation of the P.D. James bestseller for BBC One. Jenna will go up North to Yorkshire later on this month for filming.

On June 7th Coleman helped officially open the new BBC Broadcast ing House by meeting with The Queen. Coleman was one of the luminaries on hand for this special event. During the festivities Coleman had a chance to talk to Her Majesty. She commented on meeting the Queen with the BBC.

The Queen and I had a conversation about time-travel, and I told her I am the Doctor’s assistant and we get to travel anywhere in all of time and space, to which she replied “That must be fun” – to which I replied it really is, it’s marvellous, not knowing where you’re going to be from one week to the next.

JOANNA PAGE INTERVIEWED

Joanna Page has landed the enviable job of being on of the high-profile guest stars in the forthcoming 50th Anniversary special. Page is rumored to be playing Queen Elizabeth I.

The star of Gavin And Stacey recently was interviewed by The Radio Times where she disclosed she did not have to audition for her role.

They just phoned and said, ‘Will you be in it?’ and I said, ‘Oh my god, yes, definitely.

The Welsh actress also talked about working on set with the legendary John Hurt.

John Hurt

He is so much fun. He’s got the most amazing stories, he’s just fantastic. And you see him on set and he’s got that amazing voice and he doesn’t do anything, He just starts saying the lines and you’re like, ‘Oh my god, you are the best actor I’ve ever seen.’
